In 1996, Sea Barge approached Bernie Sain with a need to add refrigerated containers to their service to Puerto Rico. Bernie, then an industry consultant, was working with KLLM, one of the nation’s largest refrigerated trucking companies, to expand their role in intermodalism. KLLM had acquired a fleet of 48’ x 102” refrigerated domestic containers that were not being used.
Through this series of events Bernie recognized an opportunity to add value by using KLLM’s domestic containers to meet Sea Barge’s needs. This resulted in the formation of International Transport Logistics, Inc. and the invention of the, now patented, Sain Beam System™ ( www.shipSBS.com). ITL leased two containers from KLLM for use on Sea Barge vessels, and as they say, the rest is history.
International Transport Logistic grew to a fleet of over 250 containers and trailers and then into international air/ocean, intermodal trucking, warehousing/consolidation and special cargo handling. Today, the company is a full-service 3PL, a licensed NVOCC/OTI, freight forwarder and domestic truck broker, delivering cargo of all shapes and sizes worldwide.
